Halloween Takeover: Anne Rice Vampire Classics

With Halloween right around the corner, here are two great Vampire classics you either need to check out, or re-watch!

Be sure to tell me what you think of this movie in the comments below!

interview Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)
Starring:

Brad Pitt (Fight Club), Tom Cruise (Top Gun), Antonio Banderas (Shrek 2)

Rated: Rated R for vampire violence and gore, and for sexuality
IMDB: 7.6/10 Stars
Available:  Blu-Ray & DVD
Summary:
It hasn’t even been a year since a plantation owner named Louis lost his wife in childbirth. Both his wife and the infant died, and now he has lost his will to live. A vampire named Lestat takes a liking to Louis and offers him the chance to become a creature of the night: a vampire. Louis accepts, and Lestat drains Louis’ mortal blood and then replaces it with his own, turning Louis into a vampire. Louis must learn from Lestat the ways of the vampire.
My Thoughts:
Though this movie is chock full of vampires and vampire themes, this movie is more about the lives of these individuals than a traditional vampire telling would have.

If you haven’t already seen this classic star-filled movie, you need to check it out!

queen Queen of the Damned (2002)
Starring:

Aaliyah, Stuart Townsend (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), Marguerite Moreau (Wet Hot American Summer)

Rated: Rated R for vampire violence
IMDB: 5.2/10 Stars
Available:  Blu-Ray & DVD, Stream for FREE with Netflix subscription
Summary:
After many years of sleeping in his coffin, the vampire Lestat awakens only to find that the world has changed and he wants to be a part of it. He gathers a following and becomes a rock star only to find that his music awakens the ancient Queen Akasha and she wants him to become her king…
My Thoughts:
As a continuation to the Vampire Chronicles, this movie did not hold true to the original book, so if you are a fan you might find yourself to be disappointed. This might be due to the fact that unlike “Interview With The Vampire”, Anne Rice did not have a hand at creating the screenplay for this movie.

All that aside, if you haven’t read the books, you may enjoy this take on the classic. The music alone is fantastic, at least to me!

If anything, watch this for Aaliyah alone, as the singer died before the completion of the movie.

In fact, IMDB reports that Aaliyah died in a plane crash shortly after principal photography was completed but had not yet actually performed any ADR redubbing for her character. Director, Michael Rymer called in Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, to help with overdubbing her voice following her death due to their similar voices, special vocal technology was also used to make his voice sound more feminine.
