SUMMARY

A recounting of  a New England whaling ship’s sinking by a giant whale, the real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick.  “In the Heart of the Sea” shows the struggles of the crew as they fight to survive in extreme conditions, with constant hope of being rescued.  As the crew embraces storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men portrayed will face their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade. As their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down, these men are forced into great tribulation.

MY THOUGHTS

Though not 100% accurate, this film depicts a great recounting of the actual events that took place back in 1820. This enticing story kept me on the edge of my seat as I watched this crew go through the most extreme situations. Certainly a must-see for anyone who appreciates great story telling, In The Heart of the Sea is a story that will be sure to leave you shocked and entertained.

Be warned, however, as this film is not for the faint of heart. These men must endure suicide, starvation, and even cannibalism throughout their journey which, for me, was hard to watch at some points.  Following the lives of several crewmen, this story makes you watch as they struggle to survive while being preyed on by the notorious giant-white whale.  This movie was a heart-pounding, non-stop, survival adventure and I would highly recommend it.
